FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ARE AESTHETICS TREATMENTS SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?

Treatments wouldn't be suitable if you are under the age of 18, or have a known allergy or sensitivity to particular products or their ingredients, including local anaesthetics.

If having dermal fillers for example, we would need to ensure you’re not allergic to bee stings.  We won't treat pregnant or breast-feeding women, or for those with skin infections near the areas requiring injection.

If you're taking certain treatments which affect blood clotting, such as Aspirin, Warfarin, Clopidogrel, Vitamin D or Omega-3 oils, you should contact us about the suitability of the treatments for you.

ARE AESTHETICS TREATMENTS PAINFUL?

We use very fine needles to inject the treatments. We can also use a local anaesthetic cream and solution to numb the areas beforehand. For lip fillers we can offer a dental block at an additional cost.

The dermal fillers we use also contain lidocaine which numbs the area as we inject. This helps to make the treatments as comfortable as possible.

Some areas are more uncomfortable than others, so the very first injection can be a little sore.  However, having spoken to our clients, they tell us that our practitioner is very gentle when administering treatments.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE-EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENTS?

With fine lines/wrinkles treatment, there is the possibility of bruising around the treated areas. Sometimes, this can be quite extensive, particularly in areas that are vascular. This is temporary & tends to clear after a few days. There can also be some slight temporary skin inflammation too.

With the dermal filler injections  slight temporary bruising & inflammation can occur.

Cold packs & Arnica cream will be used in clinic to help relieve this. Treatments such as mesotherapy can cause skin purging, and more intensive treatments tenderness, swelling, redness  and extensive bruising are all normal.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME?

Yes, I do need to see ID. This will be attached to the consent form that you complete on the day. This is particularly important if you are providing consent for a minor.

WILL MY PIERCING BLEED?

A small amount of bleeding is not uncommon when being pierced and over the course of the following days. Sometimes even the most experienced piercer can catch a capillary or vein which cannot be seen. This is usually a rare occurrence.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER BEING PIERCED?

Bruising, bleeding and swelling are all normal. Whilst the tissue is swollen, the angle of the piercing can look distorted. Lymph drainage (clear or yellowy fluid) can also be expected as this is the bodies response to healing.

WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING THE HEALING PERIOD?

Treat your new piercing like you would a wound. Please do not pick or touch unnecessarily. If you need to tighten the balls or clean the area this must be done with clean hands. Depending on what piercing you have your aftercare may differ slightly, but this will be discussed during your appointment.

WHY DO YOU PIERCE ONLY WITH TITANIUM?

Titanium is my preferred jewellery choice due to the fact it is virtually nickel free. This will give your piercing the best chance of remaining infection and reaction free.

WHY HAS MY ORAL PIERCING GONE WHITE?

This can be caused if you are using mouthwash too frequently and/or it contains alcohol. It must be alcohol-free as it can destroy the healthy bacteria within your mouth.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP YOU?

Please be honest about any health concerns. Let me know if you do not like the position I have suggested for your piercing. It is your piercing and on your body, so take the time to look at where it will sit (e.g. with facial piercings smile/frown/pout etc). Try to keep calm and relax. I will ask you to take a deep breath and slowly release as I pierce as this allows for the vagal reflex to calm your body.

HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY PIERCING?

A thorough debrief will be given where aftercare is discussed extensively. Please follow the aftercare advice given to you.

WHAT ARE SIGNS OF INFECTION?

Increased pain, increased swelling, redness beyond the piercing site, puss oozing from the site and high body temperature. If at any point you are concerned your piercing is infected please contact me for advice so I can carry out an assessment.

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO HAVE A PIERCING?

Any piercings carried out on someone under 16 will require parental consent. I pierce lobes from age 4, but everything else the minimum age is 14 (excluding nipples and genitals, for which you must be aged over 18).

WILL IT HURT?

There will absolutely be an element of discomfort due to the nature of piercing, but how much varies from person to person. Talking with me about any fears or concerns that you may have will help.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE HAVING A PIERCING?

Ideally you need to ensure you have a full stomach. Eating a meal prior to your piercing will help level your blood sugars. Low blood sugar can cause dizziness or fainting which we like to avoid.
